Mt Woodson Trail to Potato Chip Rock (SoCal)

This FAMOUS hike down in San Diego is enjoyable with small or large groups. I tackled this hike with Fraternity brothers one HOT November day. There was about 30 of us, and we started the hike off in the morning, but it quickly warmed up. There was shade here and there, but majority of the hike was in the sun. Bring plenty of water so you don't get dehydrated! This is an easy trail to follow, and it's the perfect type of day retreat to walk side by side a few individuals and get to know one another. Once you get to the actual potato chip rock, we all stopped to take a bunch of pictures and eat our snacks.

As you can tell... there is a LINE to take a picture on the famous rock. As cool as the rock is, we opted not to wait. So a small group of us took a picture in front of the line waiting for the rock. Haha! Also, as shown in the top picture is this cool looking pole atop a steep boulder. My group quickly got a glimpse of this and thought this was a more fun, challenging, and rewarding picture to have as a memoir from the hike. You have to basically get a running start to climb your way up and grab on to the pole. There were a lot of scrapes and bruises on some folks, so if you have a climber monkey in your group, it's easier if they get up on there first and kind of reach forward to help others on the rock.

This trail is pretty easy to drive to, park, and hike up. Although, if your sole intention is to take a picture of the potato chip rock in all its glory, I would suggest going on a week day early in the morning to beat the crowds!
